OC SEASON OPENER (1/9/10) BOUT A SMASHING SUCCESS
The OC Roller Girls home team rivals, the Psycho Ex-Girlfriends and the Back Bay Bombshells, faced off in January's season opener. At halftime, the score was nearly tied. Each pack was fighting hard for victory but during the second half, Psychos bared their teeth and shut down the Bombshells. The final score was Psychos 105, Bombshells 57. Thanks to the fans and supporters who helped kick off 2010 with a bang!

OC ROLLER GIRLS ON THE ROAD
Last weekend (1/23/10)  your OC Roller Girls took their game on the road to battle it out with San Diego Roller Derby and we brought back the win (103-56). Thank you to everyone in orange with their pom pom's to cheer us on. VIVA OCRG!

Our next away game is (2/27/10) as we travel to Riverside to take on The Syndicate.

LOVE HURTS ON FEBRUARY 13TH
There's no better way to celebrate your love (or hate) for Valentine's Day than with a roller derby bout! On Saturday, February 13th at 7p.m., our annual Love Hurts bout will feature two home teams, the Back Bay Bombshells and the Huntington Heartbreakers. The Bombshells have been simmering since they were defeated in last month's bout. They've got a short fuse and the Heartbreakers are in for a world of hurt. Don't miss the action as the gloves come off and the teams seek to show each other just how much roller derby love can hurt.

FEATURED  CHARITY
The Assistance League of Fullerton offers a community service called "Operation New Start," which provides clothing and household items for women and children leaving abusive environments. They also collect clothing for people who are homeless and others in need. They serve Fullerton, Brea, Buena Park, La Habra, Placentia and Yorba Linda.

A portion of this bout's ticket sales will be donated to Operation New Start. If you have clothing to donate- please bring it to their booth!

On Friday, February 5, the single ladies of the OC Roller Girls will give all you single men five minutes to try your best lines in our first ever Speed Dating extravaganza!

Speed dating allows you to quickly meet a number of women, spending five minutes with each before moving on to the next. At the end of the evening, we match up all positive responses and inform the participants of any mutual matches. The best part is that your first date is free!

Valentines Day Movie has partnered with OCRG!
They are coming to our event to hand out some swag and to give OCRG fans tickets to see the movie for free! Winners at the Date a Dame will receive free tickets to a screening in OC next week!

Brik Wall #00

Ever seen those crash-test commercials where a car hurtles towards a wall at breakneck speeds? Have you seen the aftermath of broken glass and mangled bumpers? Then you have an idea of what it's like to be hit by the infamous Brik Wall.

Brik, #00, has been with The OC Roller Girls since the beginning and has helped to shape the league into the incredible organization we enjoy today. She is all heart off the track, involved in fundraising and volunteer work. But, when she crosses the track lines, she puts fierce power and aggression in to her hits. 

She doesn't stop at power blocking, though. She frequently racks up points on the scoreboard as one of the league's jammers as well. She can engage in "jammer on jammer action" that makes the other team's jammer quake in her skates. Did you know that blockers can only hit a jammer within 20 feet of the pack, but it's legal for jammers to hit each other anywhere on the track?

Purchase an "I heart Brik Wall" shirt from the OC Roller Girls website or merch table and cheer for Brik at our next bout. She'll be the one with the big personality and even bigger hits, sending girls flying in to the bleachers. Go Brik!

WHEN ROLLER DERBY AND ART COLLIDE On Thursday, February 18th, the OC Roller Girls will  be featured in a live performance art piece entitled "Smash Down" at Laguna Art Museum's upcoming OsCene 2010. Artist Jocelyn Foye recreates the finer moments of the derby brawl in a "painting-styled wall piece". More than 49 artists will participate in "The OsCene: Contemporary Art and Culture in OC" featuring painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations, video, performance, architecture and design.
